The Symbolic Lineage of the Vidyādharas

The symbolic lineage of the vidyādharas accords with the gods, nonhuman beings, and humans to be tamed.

The Lineage of Human and Nonhuman Vidyādharas

Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī taught the Dharma to the god Zhadan Qiaojiong; Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara taught it to the nāga king Zhenba Nabo; and Bodhisattva Vajrapāṇi taught it to the yakṣa Gendu Sangpo. It was then transmitted successively. In each of the three realms—the celestial realms, the nāga realms, and the yakṣa realms—it was transmitted to one hundred thousand vidyādharas, and each member of their retinues attained the fruition of Vajradhara.
