Mahāyoga was transmitted by Princess Gomadevi to Kukurāja, Excellent Vajra, and Ācārya Buddhaguhya. The latter two transmitted it to Vimalamitra, after which Mahāyoga gradually spread. The lineage of Anuyoga after King Ja differs slightly from the sequence of transmission described above. The Mahāyoga lineage was brought from India to Tibet by Nubchen Sangye Yeshe. His lineage of scriptures, tantras, and pith instructions came from Ācārya Sewe Jin, while his lineage of explanatory treatises came from Dhanarakṣita. After entering Tibet, Nubchen Sangye Yeshe transmitted it to Nub Yönten Gyatso. Through this lineage, together with the transmission of Zur Shakya Jungne to the Zur clan, Mahāyoga gradually unfolded.
